BELT LENGTH
The length of the belt can be calculated as
Lb = (Dlarge x π / 2) + (Dsmall x π / 2) + (2 x Dctc) + ((Dlarge – Dsmall)^2 / (4 x Dctc))
Where :
- Lb = length of belt (mm, inches).
- Dlarge = Large pulley diameter (mm, inches).
- Dsmall = Small pulley diameter(mm, inches).
- π = 3.14.
- Dctc = Centre to center distance between small and large pulley (mm, inches).
Pulley Gap
Pulley gap is calculated as :
Gap = Dctc – (Dlarge + Dsmall)/2
Where :
- Dctc = Centre to centre distance between two pulleys.
- Dlarge : Diameter of larger pulley.
- Dsmall : Diameter of smaller pulley.
Pulley Ratio
Pulley ratio is calculated as :
Ratio = Dlarge/Dsmall
Where :
- Dlarge : Diameter of larger pulley.
- Dsmall : Diameter of smaller pulley.
Belt Speed
The velocity at which a belt travels may be expressed as
v = π x Dsmall x RPMsmall / 12
Where :
- v = velocity of belt (ft/min)
- Dsmall = Diameter of small pulley.
- RPM Small = Revolutions of small pulley.
RPM Ratio
Speed ratio can be calculated as
SR = RPMsmall / RPMlarge
where
- SR = speed ratio
- RPMsmall = Revolutions per minute of smaller pulley.
- RPMlarge = Revolutions per minute of larger pulley.
